“Do you think they can see me?” The moon asked the sun as she looked down.

“Of course they can see you!” The sun’s booming voice echoed across the galaxy. “What makes you think they don’t?”

“It’s always so dark when I’m trying to show them who I am. I’m nothing compared to you.”

The sun burst into laughter as a flare ruptured from his side. “You always know how to make me laugh. If you keep that up I’ll burn out before my time is done.”

“I’m serious!” The moon said from the opposite side of the world. “I have try so hard to be seen by them unlike you. You just smile big and all the clouds evaporate before your eyes. You’ve never known the dark like I have.”

“Oh, being serious now are we? Alright...what about the eclipses that happen? I let you outshine me all the time.”

“That is hardly letting me shine. I’m nothing but a black mass up here to them when that happens. There were humans that thought the world was ending the first time we did those.”

“Yes, but it does feel like dancing to me. Besides, it’s one of the few times I can rest my face. Being this illuminated comes with its costs.”

“Maybe. I do try to dance with them though. I get as close as I can but it breaks my heart to see the water move like that so I pull away. I just wish there was a way to be closer to them.”

The sun grew quiet as he thought, “What if you sent them a gift?”

“What do you mean? Like how would I do that?” She strained to see around the world stirring a storm in the ocean.

“Hear me out. What if you sent them a special tear when you notice one of them looking for you? Like a surprise in the sky?”

The moon was silent and barely moved in her path across the sky. “How do you know I cry? I only do that when I can’t deal with the strain it takes to shine for them. That’s why it’s so dark. So they can’t see my tears fall.”

“Exactly why you should send them your love anyway, regardless of whether you’re shining or not. Keep yourself in their minds.”

“Maybe. There are some that look for me all the time. They even make jewelry with me on it. I’m never at my brightest though. It’s always when I’m struggling. The humans call it, ‘my phases’.”

“The humans love to glorify those not at their brightest. I can only shine with my full power a few months of the year. Anything more than that and I’ll burn everything in sight. That was a bit of a learning curve for me in my earlier years.”

“You mean the deserts? I thought those were on purpose?”

The sun let out another burst of laughter. “Did you know everything you needed when you were appointed to your position?”

“No. Every night brings forth more questions for me.”

“You’re doing fine. If anything, you’re not doing enough for them.”

“What? I’m not doing enough? I give everything I’ve got every month until I’m exhausted and leave them in the dark.”

“And that’s exactly when you could give them just that little bit more. Take that night to single out the ones looking for you and give them a treat.”

“I’ll give it a try.”

“Let me know how it goes.”

“I will.”

The two were silent the rest of the day. The following days came and went with the sun shining and smiling upon the world and the moon continuing her dance with the tides. She finally broke the silence on a dark night.

“I know what to call them. The tears that is. How do you feel about, ‘shooting stars’?

“I love it. Thank you.”

That is the story of the inspiration behind this jewelry set. A fondness between loves that distance can't deny. Even when you think they are not noticing you because you've run out of steam, they are still there waiting for you to return to your brilliance.

This is also a story to myself; never stop shining. No matter how hard it is to keep going.

I hope that you carry this story with you each and every time you wear this jewelry set. It's not just jewelry, it's a piece of the greater story and it carries with it many tears from the moon. So keep shining for me.
