Persephone’s Vessal

The following story is an original work of mine to help explain the origins of this marvelous accessory.
  

“Why are you sad?” Hades asked.

“I miss watching the seasons change. Everything stays the same here, but up there…” Persephone looked overhead.

“Ah.” Hades said. “Then perhaps this might help?” He held up his palm and a sphere of dark purple fire burned gently.

“What is it?” She asked.

“Hold out your hand.” A gentle smile crossed lips.

“Will it not burn me?”

“Zeus above! No. It will not burn. It will remind you of what you miss.”

Persephone cupped her hands together and Hades held the sphere over her hands before letting it drop. On contact, its flame went dark and the sound of metal tinkled in her hands. It was cool to the touch and reflected every source of light in the area like little fireflies. She stretched out the chain and a metal basket containing a glass bottle sat at the end of it.

“This is so you can bring a bit of home with you wherever you are.” Hades said. “You could even have multiple bottles and change them out with the seasons.”

“I love this. Thank you, Hades.”

“Absolutely. I may be the Lord of the Underworld, but, I do have a heart.”

And so it is said that Persephone carried the memory of the upper world with her,  not in defiance of the underworld, but in balance with it. A reminder that even in stillness, the seasons continue to turn.

Persephone’s Vessel is inspired by that quiet gift.

When one bottle empties, another may take its place. Not as a replacement, but as an act of renewal.
